Education, not medical advice
The Survival Kit is an educational guide to food labels and less-processed choices. Make It Yourself is an educational recipe collection. Neither is medical or dietary advice, diagnosis, treatment, or a substitute for a doctor or registered dietitian who knows your circumstances.
Research and longevity
Much of the research discussed reports links between higher ultra-processed-food intake and certain health outcomes. An association is not proof that a particular food causes an outcome. These products do not promise to prevent disease, change weight, improve a condition, extend life, or produce any specific result.
Health conditions, medicines, and life stages
If you have diabetes, kidney disease, heart disease, a digestive condition, an eating disorder history, a food allergy, or another health concern, or take daily medicine, follow your care team’s advice. Consult an appropriate professional before major food changes. Never start, stop, or alter prescribed medication because of these products. Seek professional guidance during pregnancy, breastfeeding, and when feeding babies or young children.
Allergies
Ingredients and manufacturers change. Read every product label every time, including packaged ingredients used in recipes. Recipe substitutions may introduce different allergens. If a reaction affects breathing or the throat, use prescribed emergency medication and contact emergency services immediately.
Nutrition information
Recipe nutrition values are estimates calculated from ingredient data. Brands, measurements, substitutions, and serving sizes vary. Use the values as general information, not as a medical prescription.
Kitchen safety
Use safe food-handling practices, appropriate food temperatures, clean surfaces, and care around heat, knives, raw flour, eggs, meat, poultry, and fish. Never give honey to an infant under one year old. Adults are responsible for supervising children in the kitchen.
Better, not perfect
The materials do not require eliminating all processed food or judging foods as morally good or bad. If food choices are causing distress, seek qualified support and use guidance that protects your wellbeing.
